Greentree Parade
Interested in building floats? Like walking and picking up trash to keep streets clean? Ever wanted to be in a parade?
Each year HOK is the last float in the Greentree Parade. We can always use help in designing and building the HOK float the week before. We also need walkers on the day of the parade who will promote HOK by picking up trash and handing out HOK Flyers.
Volunteer Goal: Unlimited
(You must be able to walk the distance of the parade)

Neighborhood Bag Drop
Over a two week period this project needs a large group of volunteers to drop donation bags at homes in Kirkwood to collect items for Kirk Care, Nurses for Newborns, Brown Bag Cafe, and more.
Volunteer Goal: Unlimited
(Requires standing and walking)

30 Days before HOK
HOK Sign & Food Box Distribution
A month before HOK, this team handles placement of banners, signage, and food donation boxes for HOK. This will include signage on the dumpsters days before HOK. Most of the help we need involves putting up HOK signs ahead of time and picking them back up after HOK.
Volunteer Goal: 6 People

Yard Projects
This project will take a group of volunteers to homes of Kirkwood residents who are in need of help in their yards.
Volunteer Goal: 100 People
(General labor, trimming bushes, need for lawn care tools, etc)

Day of HOK
Neighborhood Donation Bag Pick-Up
This project will take a group of volunteers going door-to-door throughout Kirkwood and collect items for Kirk Care and Nurses for Newborns. Teams will also take items to Kirk Care or back to Kirkwood Baptist Church.
Volunteer Goal: Unlimited

Donation Sorting
This project needs a group of volunteers to sort through all the items collected from the Neighborhood Donation Pick-Up team and place in boxes for delivery to the appropriate resource centers. This sorting will be held at Webster Hills Methodist (Berry and Lockwood).
Volunteer Goal: 40 people
(Must be able to lift, stand, and sort)

Home Projects
This project will take a group of volunteers to homes of Kirkwood residents that are in need of help around the house. For 2021 we will only be working on the exterior parts of homes. There are a variety of opportunities to help these residents such as performing simple household jobs. Any form of handyman or building skills welcomed.
Volunteer Goal: 50 People
(Required skilled labor, lifting, and general repairs)

Trash and Yard Waste Hauling
This project will take a group willing to load, haul, and throw away trash and yard waste from different HOK Projects in Kirkwood. Drivers with trucks and trailers, and people willing to ride along and help with loading and unloading needed.
Volunteer Goal: 20 People & 5 Trucks

Father Dickson Cemetery Clean-up
This project will need a group of volunteers to travel to Friends of Father Dickson Cemetery, one of the first public cemeteries available to Black people in the St. Louis area, to repair, restore, and preserve the cemetery.
Volunteer Goal: 20 People

October 3 (Monday after HOK)
Kirkwood House
This project will need a group of volunteers to play games and visit residents at the Kirkwood House.
Volunteer Goal: 15 People

Amazon Store Donations
If you are unable to attend or physically unable to participate, you can still support HOK through our Amazon Store. The items purchased on the store go to organizations in our community like Nurses for Newborns and Kirk Care.

Gutter Cleaning
Got a ladder or love for cleaning gutters? Then you are in luck!
We need volunteers willing to climb ladders or assist people willing to climb and clean people's gutters. We only clean homes with one story and each site will have at least two volunteers working together.
Volunteer Goal: 12 People

Winterized Car Checks
This group will be located at KBC inspecting cars and providing them with a car check list of items to follow up with their local mechanic. Windshield wiper fluid will be topped off, tires will be checked and batteries will be inspected.

Electronic Recycling
This project will be held at Meramec College. Visitors will bring old computer equipment, batteries, small appliances, etc. and drop off their recycling. Must be personable and be able to stand.

Paper Shredding
This project will be hosted and paid for by Enterprise Bank & Trust. We need volunteers to help coordinate traffic and work with the shredding company. Shredding will take place at 1052 S. Kirkwood Rd. Kirkwood, MO 63122
